Linda Allen is always a pleasure to collaborate with. Not only is she a master of interior design, her innovative work stands the test of time. Her design philosophy of understanding the narrative of a living space and the families who will occupy them is evident in her work. We collaborated on several projects. In one, a historic Pasadena mansion, the design problem was to integrate the baroque architecture with a modern sensibility. We achieved her goal with a ceiling design that featured modern circles on the background with exaggerated baroque fretwork in the foreground. This helped set the stage for her custom designed furniture.

Working with Linda Allen was one the single most enjoyable aspects of our kitchen remodel. Linda’s creative vision and professionalism made the whole process enjoyable and we felt included and empowered in all decisions creative and technical. We had a galley kitchen in our 1930’s Spanish bungalow that was completely closed off and cramped. The obvious thing to do was knock out the wall between kitchen and dining/living area which opened the whole space. Linda was very clever in how she used the small space and gave us beautifully designed custom cabinets complete with a pantry, spice rack, and lighted display shelf that I never would have thought of! There were details that Linda offered up that totally transformed the space and specialized the design to our personal style. She even came up with a style term just for us that included the history of the Spanish Mission home and combined it with a modern twist: “Urban Hacienda” Linda was ahead of trend when she showed up with quartz countertops and a jeweled backsplash that became the popular norm but was truly unique at the time. From the beautifully placed fabric touches to the imported Murano glass light pendants we felt each piece was chosen for us but never dictated to us. When working with in our budget Linda gave us homework to shop for the appliances and work directly with the contract on measurements so that we could stay on track with the timeline and budget. The contractor she entrusted us with was totally professional and did what he said he would on a daily basis. A few unplanned changes arose like the full replacement of hardwood flooring and retexturing many of the walls to create a more consistent look. These were choices made as we were in the process so the budget was somewhat stretched but nothing outrageous. We spent 5 more years enjoying our Urban Hacienda having parties and family get togethers. All in all, the change in the space led to a record sale in 2014 and our original investment in the home tripled! When we asked the buyers of our home what led them to our house they said “It’s the only house that felt like a home.” Linda Allen’s vision transformed the space and our lives along the way. Our only regret was that we didn’t do it sooner!!!

Linda is the best! I’ve had her back to do several parts of my house over the last 11 years and it’s always a pleasure. The end result is always both beautiful and functional. I recently had a caterer tell me, “I’ve been in a thousand dining rooms but yours is by far the prettiest I’ve seen.” Not only is she artistic and creative but she always knows the best contractors too!

Over the past several years, I have remodeled or redesigned just about every room in my house. I have used Linda Allen for each of those jobs. Why? Well, Linda has such a great eye for design and can solve problems that others may not even see coming. That saves you money. She works really well with the architects and the contractors. I love that, since those relationships can often be adversarial. She knows where to spend the money and more importantly, where NOT to spend it. In that way, she respects your budget. I really appreciate that and I find it rare in designers. She has beautiful taste and seems to do something unique with every project–touches you would never have thought of that make the result really special. Now, I won’t switch out a rug, countertop or even a bedspread without consulting her. She’s really that good.
